Job Summary

The primary responsibility for this Network Administrator - Intern position is to assist in daily operations support and project related planning of network components such as routing, switching, and traffic filtering in both local and wide area networks. The Network Administrator will work in conjunction with internal IT resources to deliver and optimize network solutions. This role will help maintain networks with a high level of security and stability and provide technical support as required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform data entry and information validation within network source of truth user interface.
  • Process tickets and coordinate with Internet Service Providers for down or degraded circuits.
  • Assist with building and maintaining LAN, WAN, and SDWAN components with a focus on maximizing security and availability.
  • Review, plan, and implement routing and switching changes utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IAC).
  • Assist with planning and implementation of firewall updates, policies, and rules.
  • Troubleshoot the Bank network for root cause analysis and reducing operational difficulties.
  • Perform daily system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of network equipment and services.
  • Anticipate communication and networking problems and implement preventive measures. Forecast potential improvements needed and recommend changes.
  • Understand the compliance environment and impact to banking information technology.

Education/Skills/Training:

  • Knowledge of fundamental networking concepts and information such as the OSI model, IPv4 Subnetting, Ethernet switching, static & dynamic routing, traffic filtering, and application aware firewalls.
  • Knowledge of deploying and managing dynamic routing protocols. (OSPF/ EIGRP/BGP)
  • Knowledge of Cisco switching and routing hardware equipment and CLI management.
  • Knowledge of Meraki switching and wireless hardware equipment and dashboard management.
  • Knowledge of Palo Alto physical and virtual firewalls.
  • Knolwedge of Internet Service Providers, circuit delivery and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of IPv4, subnetting, TCP flags, and packet analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of SDWAN concepts and market solutions.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IAC) and supporting components. (Git/YAML/JSON/IDE/etc.)
  • Knowledge of Cloud Services and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) concepts.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and Lucid Diagramming for communication and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or approved equivalent.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to take initiative.
  • A basic understanding of financial statements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Must have good typing, clerical skills and attention to detail.
  • Position requires clear and concise verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments in a consistent manner to ensure timely and efficient production.
