Job Summary

The Accounting Assistant supports a variety of accounting tasks with accuracy and efficiency. This role is responsible for processing accounts payable, reconciling general ledger accounts, and ensuring the accuracy of business transactions. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, proactive in resolving discrepancies, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced financial environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

  • Daily processing of accounts payable bills.
    • Accurately codes bills and expense reimbursements.
    • Accurately enters data into the accounts payable program.
    • Pays bills according to established schedules.
    • Research, resolves, and responds to inquires, within an established timeframe, from branch/department staff and vendors.
    • Conducts research on discrepancies and makes appropriate corrections.
  • Balances for daily business transactions.
    • Accurately post and reconcile daily work according to standard accounting practices. 
  • Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts.
    • Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts on a monthly/quarterly basis.
    • Researches and resolves out-of-balance occurrences within a reasonable established timeframe.
  • Initiates general ledger entries.
    • Possesses solid understanding of the general ledger system and properly codes entries.
    • Promptly creates general ledger entries for items received.
  • Completes special projects assigned.
    • Accurately performs special projects assigned according to established time frames.
    • Keep updated desktop procedures.
  • Compliance
    • Adhere to bank policies and procedures designed to comply with Federal regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act and OFAC regulations.
    • Complete and pass all assigned eLearning courses.
    • Avoid any real or perceived conflicts of interest and always maintain client privacy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Business is preferred
  • Exposure to accounting principles either through classes or accounts payable work experience
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate in the English language
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Exceptional conceptual, organizational, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Great team player with solid interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Detail oriented and accurate with numbers and reporting
